UV Albedo Climatology, Example Figures

In Figures 1 and 2 are shown the monthly climatological 360 nm surface albedo in the Northern and Southern hemisphere, respectively. The high albedo values correspond to snow covered terrain or sea ice. In addition to the average surface albedo, the variance of the climatological surface albedo was studied. In Figures 3 and 4 are shown the monthly standard deviation (= square root of the variance) of the climatological 360 nm surface albedo in the northern and the southern hemisphere. High values of standard deviation were found in regions whose snow or ice cover varies from year to year. The variance information could be used for seasonal error estimates of the surface UV or other retrieval algorithms.
